DR. GRIFFIN P. RODGERS was named Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK)–one of the National Institutes of Health (NIH)–on April 1, 2007. He had served as NIDDK’s Acting Director since March 2006 and had been the Institute’s Deputy Director since January 2001. As the Director of NIDDK, Dr. Rodgers provides scientific leadership and manages a staff of over 600 employees and a budget of $2.0 billion.
Dr. Rodgers received his undergraduate, graduate, and medical degrees from Brown University in Providence, R.I. He performed his residency and chief residency in internal medicine at Barnes Hospital and the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. His fellowship training in hematology was in a joint program of the NIH with George Washington University and the Washington Veterans Administration Medical Center. In addition to his medical and research training, he earned an MBA, with a focus on the business of medicine/science, from Johns Hopkins University in 2005.
As a research investigator, Dr. Rodgers is widely recognized for his contributions to the development of the first effective — and now FDA approved — therapy for sickle cell anemia. He was a principal investigator in clinical trials to develop therapy for patients with sickle cell disease and also performed basic research that focused on understanding the molecular basis of how certain drugs induce gamma-globin gene expression. Recently, he and his collaborators have reported on a modified blood stem-cell transplant regimen that is highly effective in reversing sickle cell disease in adults and is associated with relatively low toxicity. He has been honored for his research with numerous awards including the 1998 Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Foundation Award, the 2000 Arthur S. Flemming Award, the Legacy of Leadership Award in 2002, and a Mastership from the American College of Physicians in 2005.
Dr. Rodgers has been an invited professor at medical schools and hospitals both nationally and internationally. He has been honored with many named lectureships at American medical centers and has published over 200 original research articles, reviews, and book chapters, has edited four books and monographs, and holds 3 patents.
Dr. Rodgers is a member of the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Investigation, the Association of American Physicians, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Science, among others. He served as Governor to the American College of Physicians and as Chair of the Hematology Subspecialty Board and a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine Board of Directors.

I use to think that being ‘Gay’ was all about sexual preference. Now these people want to get married?? I have a hard time believing it is because of love..but maybe I’m wrong and I suppose that’s how openly twisted things have become nowaday..
In my opinion, the only motivation “these people” have for ‘marriage’ is due to medical privacy clauses, life and health insurance benefits. Because again, other than that I am confused why two people of the same sex would want to get married, to destroy their anal cavity by having continuous anal sex and/or sex with a plastic penis/dildo forever? At some point, like every other married couple they will stop having sex and/or cheat on their ‘spouse’ and frankly if two women or two men stop having sex then aren’t they just best friends?
Why don’t they call what they want a ‘same-sex’ common law arrangement, and in states that legally recognize these common-law arrangement; and in these states that honor living together as equal to being married, hey should also recognize these arrangements in cases for people of the same-sex?
Now this same-sex people wanting to raise people? To do what, confuse them. Two men or women on a birth certificate? What sense does this make? Why would two men or two women want to raise a baby? So that one can pretend to be the opposite sex. My take is if two men or two women are suppose to raise a child then they should figure out how to make one. FUck a modern family, keep working in a new pussy and try to procreate…because being ‘gay’ and ‘married’ is sort of like the suicide of your genetic make-up. Yeah I went there.
I strongly believe that these openly ’gay’ people who want to get married are in essence counterproductive, weak-minded and possibly the abused members of our society. Their genetic make-up is WEAK. This is achieved by applying preventive measures that monitor the environment and limit exposure workers to hazardous materials. By applying occupational safety and health measures, employers provide surveillance principles that identify and limit workers exposure to hazardous chemicals and biological agents at the workplace. A confound of occupational toxicology is establishing that exposure at the workplace is the causation of adverse health effects. There are many occupational diseases, such as cancer, allergies and infectious diseases that can be due to other factors such as age, nutrition, genetic susceptibility and behavior. Also, often there is a ‘latent interval’ between exposure and the manifestation of the disease where these ‘modifying factors’ play a role in contributing to the progression of disease.
The first step in occupational toxicology is the ‘determinant of dose’, which is the amount of the toxicant that reaches the target tissue over a defined time span. In occupational toxicology “exposure” and dose are often used interchangeably and is dependent on both the chemical properties of the toxicant as well as several host factors. Exposure is dependent on the concentration, duration and frequency of the dose; however other modifying factors such as age, gender, nutrition, behavior, the combined effects of exposure to multiple toxicants, and genetic susceptibility can also shape the manifestation of adverse health effect in workers.
The second step in occupational toxicology is to protect workers from adverse health effects. This is done by screening wellness programs, occupational health standards, surveillance, bio-monitoring, monitoring the environment using administrative and engineering controls and the use of personal protective devices and equipment. Through these methods, employers reduce exposures, disrupt the exposure-dose pathway that leads to adverse health effects and identify exposure levels that may generate early effects before they lead to irreparable disease.
